Staten Island is both the name of an island on the west side of the Narrows at the entrance of New York Harbor as well as the name of the one of the five boroughs of New York City in the United States. It is coterminous with Richmond County, the southernmost county of the State of New York. As an island, it is separated from Long Island by the Narrows and from mainland New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull.
