Cumberland Island is located off the coast of Georgia, north of the Georgia - Florida state line.

It is one of the Sea Islands, which consist of over 100 barrier islands that are located between the Santee River in South Carolina and the St. John's River in Florida. It is also the Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island.

Most of the island is owned by the National Park Service, and is The Cumberland Island National Seashore.

Access is by a 45 minute ferry ride from St. Marys, Georgia.
